WHO WE ARE
About Limeway
James, of Limeway, began his career in the building trade in 1987, and in 2005, he was taken onto his first job, which involved Lime repointing. It was the wrong time of year for Lime Repointing, but James realised this was what he wanted to focus on, and a career dedicated to Lime and conservation began. From 2005 to 2010, James worked for a large conservation company (then known as St Blaise Ltd, a significant player in historic building conservation); during this time, James worked on multiple English Heritage and National Trust properties across Southern England.
James was privileged enough to work on the following historic properties: Cowdray Ruins (Midhurst), Greys Court (Henley-on-Thames), Robert Raikes Inn (Gloucester) and Waddesdon Manor (Aylesbury).
Traditional Lime Renovation and Conservation for Old and Listed Buildings
In 2010, James became an independent Lime mortar specialist focusing on Lime Mortar Repointing, Brick, Chalk and Flint Replacement, Lime Rendering, Lime Plastering and Limecrete Flooring. His passion lies in restoring and repairing exterior render, especially gable ends. He carefully removes old (and incorrectly used) cement, cleans out the loose dust and rubble, reconstructs the masonry (brick, stone or chalk), dubs out (levelling to the layperson), he then applies the scratch coat, and lastly, he applies the top coat.
Since 2010, James has worked in the following towns and villages (please note this is not a definitive list), and he takes great pride that his work will stand the test of time:
* Berkshire: Froxfield, Inkpen, Lambourn & Pangbourne (Basildon Park, National Trust).
* Gloucestershire: Coln St Aldwyns.
* Oxfordshire: Ashbury, Shrivenham, Uffington & Woolestone (manor house).
* Wiltshire: Aldbounre, All Cannings, Chiseldon, Roundway Devises, Bishops Cannings, Ramsbury, Slaughterford & Wroughton.
